Apps everyone should use

There are so many apps out there, It’s hard to see them as useful beyond gaming or social media.
However there are some amazing apps that can help you in your day-to-day, by making better decisions in your life.
Here are a few that I love and can’t wait to share with you!

Giki

This a wonderful app to have downloaded when you are food shopping or picking up some snacks. Simply scan your product and Giki will break down the product in straightforward illustrations (badges).
The WWF actually recommend this app as a great way to see if products are using sustainable palm oil or not. Boycotting palm oil is not the answer, however it is essential that we only buy products that use sustainable palm oil. The badges made it easy to stay on your sustainable and ethical life journey in the kitchen. Another great thing is that the app will give you better alternatives if the product you scan doesn’t score high!

Good on You

Fast Fashion is something that every person should take a stand against, not only is it polluting the world, but it uses slave labour in third world countries which has contributed to many deaths. If you haven’t yet watched it, please watch the documentary The True Cost to learn how your garments are produced and the effect it is having on our planet and its people.
So what does Good on You do? It rates brands on factors such as it’s environmental impact and labour conditions. It is a wonderful app to help you navigate the green washing of many companies. This gives you space to rethink your relationship with clothing, and perhaps take the steps to only buy clothes when needed, spending the time and extra money on pieces that are more ethical.

Think Dirty

Think Dirty is not the best app for it’s interface as the colour’s are harsh on the eyes and hard to read, however what it does is great. You scan or search for a beauty item and see the list of ingredients, with an explanation as to what the ingredients are. It also shows you any certifiers the product has, such as is it sulfate or paraben free.

Headspace

This is a wonderful little app that reminds you to take a few minutes a day to just ‘be’. It teaches you the basics of meditation and is tailored based on what you wish to achieve. There are many apps that offer something similar and I believe that everyone should take a few minutes a day to relax and be mindful of their breathing.

Water Reminder

You can use any number of apps for this, I think that everyone should have some sort of reminder every hour to have some water. It is so easy to forget to keep hydrated, and yet it is so important for us! Whether or not you log your water intake, as little ping on your phone is great to remind you to drink something.

Clue

This is an absolute must-have for any person who has periods. Not only can you use Clue to track your periods, but you can track many other things such as PMS symptoms, fluid intake, weight, sleep and energy. You can set reminders for breast checks and to take your pill. It will then give you warnings of any cramps, PMT approaching, based on your previous months.
Clue can be used for tracking your fertile window, any late periods and your ovulation days, making family planning easier.
